THE WONDER AND ENCHANTMENT OF WATER

The Earth was once completely covered with water and still remains predominantly composed of water. Every person is swathed in utero in water and amniotic fluid, and when emerged, their body is 90% water. As adults, humans are 70% water which is held within the human body in trillions of cells, and humans would die the quickest death if left for even a short amount of time without water. The Japanese researcher, Dr. Masuru Emoto, postulates that humans are water, and in his breakthrough research chronicled in his New York Times Bestsellers, The Hidden Messages in Water and The Message of Water, he has demonstrated the fascinating effect humans, words, environments, and music have on the actual form and substance of water.

Water is a fluid that shapes easily to whatever environment is present, but water can also be a gas and a solid in the frozen form. Not only can the actual physical shape of water change, but it is now known from the work by Dr. Emoto, that the molecular structure of water can change in response to actions, thoughts, words, music, and environments! How were these fascinating results achieved?

Since snow has been falling as frozen water on the earth for millions of years, and it was already known that each snowflake had a unique crystalline structure, Dr. Emoto started studying water in the frozen state. He put water under different conditions, froze the water, and took photographs of the differences of the molecular structures under the different conditions. His findings were both fascinating and prophetic!

In testing water from extensive sources around the world, he found that water from pristine sources of clean streams, Antarctica, and natural springs made beautiful and delicate crystals while water from polluted sources, such as tap water with chlorine and water from drainage pipes, showed distorted or no crystalline formations. He next decided to see if crystal formations in water were changed by music, and he was delighted to find that classical, religious, and folk music made beautiful water crystals, while heavy metal music did not form any crystals.

The next phases of his research were testing the effect of words, prayers and phrases on crystal formation, and he found that both the spoken word, and words attached to the bottles of water, had formative reactions on the water. When positive, thoughtful words, such as thank you and the phrase love and appreciation, were said, the water formed delicate, beautiful crystals. When ill-intended phrases, such as you make me sick and I will kill you, were said or attached to the bottles of water, then the water became distorted and no crystals formed.

Dr. Emoto’s research is much more extensive than what can be summarized here, but the interested reader should be encouraged to read his books and see the beautiful pictures of crystals he has taken under the varied conditions. The most enduring and lasting lessons from Dr. Emoto’s research are much grander than the mere formation of water crystals. He makes beautiful connections between the research on water crystals and the spiritual realm, ecological awareness, language formation and usage, the survival for humankind, and positive feelings towards all the relations.

In his words, “If you express your intentions, the realization of those intentions will follow”. (The Hidden Messages in Water, 2001)
